Description
The MAAS museum has many objects to display in public. Some of
them are only available online. However, these days people seem
to go to museums without paying attention to the objects that they
have seen. They walk around without engaging.
In this project, I have chosen a kimono dress and the concept is a
digital modern technology solution to help the users interact and
get a new experience with the object.
The Kimono was given to Authur Manefield whose was a donor’s
brother in law. This kimono dress style with T-shape appeared in
the Heian period (749-1192). The Japanese people separated the
clothing style from the upper and lower class.
My purpose concept is a virtual fitting mirror like a vending
machine. It is not just a usual mirror that we can only interact with
the object. But it can we try on the dress with the virtual function.
Moreover, the users can engage with the Kimono by moving around
to see the detail. They can also interact and have a conversation
with the character that appears on the screen. The character will
come out to talk about the information and technique of the Kimono
dress. Users can take a selfie with the Kimono on and share it on
their social media as well.

This project was developed under the guidance of studio leaders and demonstrators. As a response to a national assessment brief, it is not directly connected to the Powerhouse Museum.
