In this video, Dr. Stéphane Verguet discusses private expenditures averted in ECEA. ECEA takes the perspective of the individuals and households affected by illness and examines the ensuing illness-related financial consequences they face. With the onset of illness, affected individuals’ financial burden can include: direct medical costs paid out of pocket, direct non-medical costs (e.g. transportation costs to seek care) out of pocket, and time losses, which can be translated into wages lost.
This teaching pack was developed by Dr. Stéphane Verguet at the Center for Health Decision Science. Stéphane Verguet is Assistant Professor of Global Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in the Department of Global Health and Population.
