And investment-driven housing development can leave longtime residents feeling powerless in the face of change. Here, Kathy Atwater, a lifelong resident of Chapel Hill's historically black Northside neighborhood, describes how community members came together through the Marian Cheek Jackson Center to defend their homes and history.
