Latency is always a concern for communications through the Internet. It could happen when a video is played through YouTube with the slow loading speed, or Skype users are interrupted by the connection issue. Latency could be problematic when it exceeds the threshold of human hearing in musical concept. This project, created by Ivan King Tat Chan, is an interaction design based on the conception of network music and online performance. It was initially a multi-channel installation presented with multiple speakers’ system. However, due to the inconvenience caused by the COVID-19, it has been modified as a programme that could be accessed by the users at home. It discusses the relationship between a music genre or style and the spatial condition created by the environment. It aims to raise awareness of the latency issue in online performance.
