WE ARE LUMINOUS
‘A relaxed performance where the gifts of Spirit Project artists are nurtured and celebrated.’

It is with great joy that Solo Chicken Productions and partners invite audiences to a new theatrical experience, WE ARE LUMINOUS. This show, created and performed by Spirit Project artists with and without intellectual disabilities, celebrates the unique gifts of each individual, highlights diverse artistic voices and shares the joys of living in an inclusive society.

Since May 2019, Solo Chicken and partners have run The Spirit Project, a series of mixed ability art-based workshops where folks of ALL abilities, including adults with intellectual disabilities, come together in community to create. For the first year our community took workshops in a variety of forms including Visual Arts, Improv, Dance, Music and Film and explored and shared our unique gifts. The Spirit Project became a weekly celebration where friendships blossomed, gifts were revealed, and inclusion championed. The project was slated to conclude in May 2020, but the Spirit Project community were eager to continue and decided to embark on a second year focused on creating a public performance.

And embark we did, returning in September 2020 to begin working on our opus. Led by the desire to share the gifts of our artists and to demonstrate the beauty of inclusion we decided the ‘show’ would be an invitation to join our circle and share in our artistic practice. WE ARE LUMINOUS is a walk through a day at The Spirit Project, featuring our warm-up, meditation, games and special performances of our Spirit Project song and poem. The performances are ‘relaxed’ which means lights are on, noise is moderated, and all are welcome to participate and be in the space in any way. (Video shot & edited by Strike Pictures.)
