I often title "self portraits", even if I am behind the camera for much of the piece. There are a few reasons for this, at least one being that it always seems much more honest and personal to capture my mind through the lens, rather than the body. That is, this video is intended to export to you how I often see the world; the quick and jarring cuts are meant to convey the nature of a distracted and wandering mind, which often encounters fleeting, yet beautiful, glimpses of clarity. This sentiment that was intended to be matched by the meandering pianos of the song, which weave a few different melodies and voicings into an almost homogenous and curious tone. I dunno, something like that.

This portrait in particular was inspired by a gorgeous fog that sank in over the banks of the Huron River late one night in Ann Arbor. The heavy air softened, like a brush, every harsh street light, leaving the winter night feeling invitingly warm. It was rad.
