Concetta Abbate is a violinist and singer who delves the worlds of improvisation and composition. Her songs are lush and ambient dreamscapes of strings and voice. They are recognizable melodies that leave just enough room for spontaneity to give an element of surprise to each performance. As an educator she is inclined to weave storytelling and history into the presentation of each song. She especially draws on themes of poetry, folklore, and natural science. She tends to seek interdisciplinary collaboration and has been known to create projects with choreographers, writers, filmmakers, and photographers. Concetta lives in Brooklyn, NY.
