The triadic right hand chorale/melody normally nestled under one flag, here in this early-period Scriabin, in thrall to high Russian Romanticism, all three voices fly each their own, suggesting a less didactic top-voiced hegemony, and a more fluid, porous hierarchy among the soprano trio. High drama condensed as pronouncement, profession of devotion; the rhetoric of rapture.
Thus ends my short reminiscence of my Scriabin immersion of 20 years ago in Martha Clarke's Vers la flamme. In the coming days, I'll have some Sondhiem, Tears For Fears and Radiohead to share. As I'll then be embarking on the complete Well-Tempered Clavier, only very occasional selections will be made available here, signing up to my mailing list, christopheroriley.com/subscribe/ would be a very smart idea. Cheers.
