The act of creation takes on infinite forms. We asked Pew Fellows of various disciplines to create short videos that offer a window into their methods of making.

Performance artist Jaamil Olawale Kosoko incorporates elements of dance, music, poetry, film, and visual art into performances that reflect on Black and queer identity.

Drawing upon historical events and archival relics, Kosoko offers narratives that disrupt conventional performance and speak to contemporary life.

He's toured widely in the US and abroad and is the recipient of a National Dance Project Award, a Princeton Arts Fellowship, and a Cave Canem Fellowship.

In this video, Kosoko shares an in-progress excerpt from his new work, "Syllabus for Black Love."

First published in July 2021.
