Whether preserved or paid forward, every musician has an instrument in his past that clings to him or her forever. Such was my blond short scale Peavey T15 "Mississippi Mustang" my last guitar built in the United States. "Fritzie" went in trade toward a generally much better appointed full-sized electric that, with all it's bells and whistles over and above my technical growth (at least in recording) has never captured that maple fretboard sound. Thus a modest "lead" from a modest instrument remains a focal point in this otherwise overhauled arrangement.

The real Nancy Fair was almost as fickle as I, which made her safe at a very vulnerable time. The song, I thought, should follow suit. At the time, I was working out some covers with a nurse who wanted to step big-toe first into the local college monthly coffeehouce circuit, as I had. Through this process Nancy Fair became my first public duet ever. Alas, the pairing would not be repeated, but the reception emboldened me enough to carry this song to the status of my first formal arrangement and ultimately my first multitrack. So if it looks like I kind had a lot of fun tarting this up for a new generation; well, yeah!

LYRICS:

I feel the North Wind come a-rushing through your hair, and somehow I am warmed
Your blue-green eyes, shine like melting ice,
through the soft glow of that face I so adore,

And I sing, one more time, can I look you in the eyes, O Nancy Fair
and if you can't look back just look within your heart
and I'll pray to God that I'm still standing there
for my love belongs to you, Nancy Fair

Wet vermilion doors where softness abounds, revealing perfect crowns
Oh how I pine to taste what lies behind
with a passion that seeps through from so deep down

And I sing...
...for my love belongs to you, Nancy Fair

I lay beside the one I've so longed to caress, but she just blows right by
Her bosom fades, my pillow takes its place,
like so many times before and I could die

But then that old North Wind comes rushing through your hair, and somehow I am warmed
Your blue-green eyes, shine like melting ice,
through the soft glow of that face I so adore,

And I sing...
...for my love belongs to you, Nancy Fair
...for my love belongs to you... Nancy Fair
