Notes on today’s music:

This fall we are offering evening Services of Praise and Prayer, so it seemed fitting that September’s Musical Meditations be devoted to the same. In some instances, the music is clearly more upbeat; in others, more contemplative. Most often, however, it is the texts that speak to both modes of worship, true prayers of praise. As you read these lyrics, consider anew the beauty of the prose and the depth of faith they represent.

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the God of creation.
O my soul, praise him, for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near. Join me in glad adoration!

“Man of Sorrows!” what a name for the Son of God, who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim. Hallelujah! What a Savior!
I love to tell the story of unseen things above: of Jesus and his glory, of Jesus and his love.
I love to tell the story because I know 'tis true; it satisfies my longings as nothing else can do.
I love to tell the story: 'Twill be my theme in glory to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love.

Abide with me, fast falls the eventide. The darkness deepens, Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee, help of the helpless, oh, abide with me.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!

All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all.
Each little flower that opens, each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors, He made their little wings.
