Medemer is a philosophy adopted by the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed. Contextually, the term conveys the ideas of synergy, the principles found with inclusive practices and a collectivist approach.
When we rise together, by investing in the well-being of others and work towards a collective goal, we can achieve goals that were once unreachable. And once united, we can overcome any obstacle or challenge. Adwa is a reflection of how Ethiopia’s ancestors came together, setting aside their differences to accomplish what was previously impossible.
The Battle of Adwa is a poem written by Lemn Sissay celebrating the triumphant win of Ethiopia against the Italian forces in 1896. The victory at Adwa liberated Ethiopia, and was instrumental in empowering other countries on the continent of Africa to gain their independence.
