Here's another favorite of mine from 1967 entitled "98.6" ... a lovely, lilting melody with a fast moving tempo. The song's recording artist, born James Barry Keefer, took on the singular performing name of Keith. 98.6 became a smash hit in the United States after its release in December 1966. The Tokens ("The Lion Sleeps Tonight") provided the backing vocals to Keith's lead vocal on the single. Along with Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade Of Pale," Keith's "98.6" was among Beatle John Lennon's favorite songs in 1967. The song peaked at #7 on both Billboard and Cash Box on February 11, 1967, reaching #24 in the UK. It was later covered in a two-song medley that included "Lazy Day" by Lesley Gore in 1969, which reached #36 in the US.
