Cultural Park presents American Lyric, a world-premiere commissioned and created for Kaatsbaan Spring Festival, May 27 & 28, 2021

AMERICAN LYRIC is a residency and performance collaboration between Hunter Noack’s IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild™ and GarenMedia, a dance-based production company founded by Garen Scribner.

Founded in the spirit of the Works Progress Administration’s (WPA) Federal Music Project, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild™ produces outdoor concerts in forests, fields, and calderas rather than traditional concert halls. Founder and concert pianist Hunter Noack performs on a 9-foot Steinway grand piano, and the live music is transmitted to concert-goers via wireless headphones while they explore the landscape. Steinway & Sons provided a Spirio R Model D piano for American Lyric.

Garen Scribner convenes a diverse group of dancers who, with himself, create solo performances in response to Noack’s music. Garen is joined by Coral Dolphin, Or Schraiber, ShanDien ‘Sonwai’ LaRance, and Taylor Stanley. Audiences experience both music and dance while wandering -safely distanced - through lush meadows that abut Kaatsbaan’s old-growth forests.
