“In Times Like This” (2019) is a film that deeply dissects the feelings of uncertainty and inadequacy that I felt during my senior year of high school; being dragged along through the college application process while trying to maintain my grades to make sure that I actually got in was taxing in every aspect. I consistently asked myself “What is my next step?” or “What is my purpose here?”. During the slow, cold, and dismal winter months, I found myself documenting in my journal and listening to miss Sol-Angel herself; specifically the song “Where Do We Go”.

As I reflect here a year later on the anniversary of the production of this film, I realize how much the project means to me. Throughout the adversity, I created something beautiful. My purpose has been found to an extent: being completely vulnerable and transparent with myself through my art. In doing so, I am making people comfortable with being uncomfortable; making people reflect and confront the things in their lives. But, I think that’s a great thing. The best things come from the ugliest and most turbulent moments in life, like this film did, with me. It is normal. In saying this, I know that I will go through more of these moments with the same feelings of inadequacy and uncertainty, as I am right now, but I am more than prepared. This is why I have made the decision to change the title to “In Times Like These” (2019) instead of “This” because these feelings come intermittently and never go away.
