Disney has announced that one of their most popular rides, Splash Mountain, will be completely restyled.
Fans urged the company to change the ride that is based on the 1946 movie, ‘Song of the South’.
The movie has long been criticized for its stereotypical and offensive depictions of African Americans.
The iconic Splash Mountain ride has been a fan-favorite ever since Disney’s parks were created in 1989.
An online petition, signed by over 20,000 people, asked Disney to change the ride’s theme to ‘Princess and the Frog’.
Disney will now completely reimagine the ride at their Disneyland park in California, and Magic Kingdom Park in Florida.
The company said the new ride will be inclusive and showcased concept art for the new ‘Princess and the Frog’ theme.
"We pick up this story after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film," Disney.
It has yet to be announced when the restyled Splash Mountain will be unveiled, but Disney says design work is underway.
