I want to take a few minutes of your time and tell you my inspiration for writing this song. It has touched me very deeply on a level I can’t put into words…
I was at the cemetery for my Uncle’s funeral and spotted Ann Elise’s tombstone as I walked back to my car. I stopped for a few moments pondering why there was only a single date upon it. Something seemed to come over me that felt like pure love as I stared upon the head stone. I felt I was not alone. I lingered only a few more moments and headed back to my car. The feeling stayed with me as I drove home wondering to myself if it could have been her spirit. What was I supposed to do about it and why had she come to me? I tried to shake it off but the next day it was still with me and I returned to the cemetery to see if I truly had felt that love or maybe it had just been my imagination. Then it came to me; I was meant to see this and to memorialize Ann Elise in a song. It came from that special place that songs come from complete with lyrics and melody. I needed to find out more about her. I was able to contact her Mother, Mrs. Johnson and she told me that when her daughter was born that she held her in her arms but that Ann Elise only lived for an hour. That is why only the one date appears on the tombstone. I played my demo for her and she loved it and told me she was humbled that I would do this. She sent me a photo of her lovely baby that was taken by Stephanie Greenwell, a local photographer in our area and the one of the tombstone. She gave me the complete go ahead to release this song and video. Through doing this it is my hope that the memory of Ann Elise will live forever.
