On June 2, 2020, two music industry executives started a global Instagram movement in response to the brutal police murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor. It became known as 'Blackout Tuesday'.
More than 11.3 million #blackouttuesday posts were shared by people and companies pledging support for the end of systemic racism in policing. But for many, that was where the effort ended.
So exactly 365 days after the movement began, we worked with training organization Courageous Conversation to post another black square on Instagram—one that challenged people to look back at the pledges they'd posted and reignite their commitment to anti-racism.
We set out to inspire people to do more than just virtue signal.
