A performance of Paul McCartney's song, 'Blackbird'. Played by Stuart Weber and Jake Fleming. Stuart Weber re-imagined the melody for the classical guitar, adding counter melodies and moving the score to the key of D major. Jake is playing a blend of the standard fingerings for the well known guitar part on a baritone guitar in a key right next door to the original.
Filmed at the Emerson Art Center in Bozeman, Montana by Robin Starbuck, Scott Duce, and Brenda Popovitz. Edited by Robin Starbuck.
"In May 2002, following a show in Dallas, Texas, McCartney discussed this song with Chris Douridas, saying: "... I actually just remembered why I'd written "Blackbird" ... I was in Scotland playing on my guitar, and I remembered "you were only waiting for this moment to arise" from the civil rights movement (sic) in the United States. I was using the symbolism of a blackbird for this (sic)..."
