Handel's music inspired my three danced improvisations, which, in turn, inspired the triptych of paintings. The line form Emily Dickinson's poem provided the title.
Rage. Revenge... What if Oedipus discovered there were no gods, no seer’s predictions or inevitability ruling his fate, that he alone was responsible for the cosmic joke of his life’s dreadful entanglements? Or if Sisyphus paused before shouldering his burden to curse the universe for having to be born over and over again? Yet there is satisfaction in declaring agency, even in rage. Imagine Michelangelo’s “Bound Slaves” unbound, become flesh for a brief moment. Could it be an overture to a new life, to freedom, or merely a foreshadowing of an ancient story already doomed, sealed in its own history?
