I've spent the past year or so learning my way around a few analog, modular synthesizers. The most accessible of my small collection, the super popular Moog Mother-32, has been a definite source of joy for me these days. I've still got a lot to learn, but I'm beginning to settle into an intuitive approach that's starting to work for me. Being a piano player, my tendency is to find a patch I like and just stick with it, improvising with the sounds as I find them, but I'm lately challenging myself to let the patches themselves evolve and change as I work with a musical idea on the keyboard. I’ve been aiming to find an approach to music making that feels both healing and expansive. Organic, spacious minimalism is definitely my vibe right now.
I'll be releasing the full album for this project, Ambient Studies, later on this fall.
