A CASSANDRE (TO CASSANDRA) is a video remix inspired by the famous poem "Ode à Cassandre" (1545) by Pierre de Ronsard.

In this ode to sensual pleasure, the old poet tries to seduce a young girl. To do so, not only does he celebrate her beauty but he also warns her against looming death and decay. And soon his love song turns into a threat...

The video soundtrack confronts this ambiguous "carpe diem" with the feminist hymn "Pleasure" sung by Feist, in order to give Cassandra a voice.

Now is time to enter Cassandra's own poem.

Graceful, let us see if the rose
Which, this morning, had unclosed
Her robe of purple to the sun,
Has not yet lost, in the evening,
The folds of her purpled robe
And her dye looking like your own.

Alas, see how in so little time,
Graceful, she has let fall,
Alas, alas, her beauties down !
O Nature, so cruel a mother,
That such a flower should endure
Only from morning till evening.

So, if you believe me, Graceful,
While your young age is in flower
In its most verdant blossoming.
Gather, gather your youth
For, like this flower, old age
Will tarnish your beauty.
