52 films is a learning project and self-challenge to make a short film each week for 52 weeks.
This week;
- It would seem I have become obsessed with making creepy shit. Which, hey, is really fun and you should definitely try it some time.
- aaaaaaaaaah there was one shot I thought I was getting away with when I was grading it, but I pushed the footage way too far and it stands out quite a fair bit. Didn't watch it before I uploaded it. GAH. Always watch before posting, dingus.
- Fun fact. I played violin for several years growing up. Other fun fact. I hated the sound of violins. And, mostly, I still do. Which is perfect.
- My lovely lovely lovely roommate who was in the US on exchange from the Netherlands flew home today and so I roped her into acting for me. Partly as a coping mechanism (because I'll miss her, she's great) and also because life imitates art and art comes from life.
- This week was really about restraint and forcing people to hold on. I've been noticing suspense directing/editing a lot recently, but have often felt that my work has just felt... bleh. slow... This week, I really enjoyed discovering how slow editing but driving music creates an interesting discomfort and balances out. Had anticipated the need for voiceover or something because most of the shots are very long... but IMO it doesn't need it.
- Honestly, I love how this looks and feels. I don't know what it is, but something about it is deeply satisfying to me. Maybe it's because I come from the acting and theatre side of things and I love being able to see the body in space, maybe I have an aesthetic, or maybe the slight adjustment of shooting in a different aspect ratio is what made the different. Who knows?
- Truthfully, this week works for me. And I don't really know why. It just does. I don't know how I did it. I don't know what specifically I like about it. But I know that it came together really really easily and that I feel like it creates an atmosphere i want to spend more time in.
- Should there be more story? I mean. Is there story? Whatever, it's implied.
