The History - The Stupid Economy

On September 24, 2011, at 1:30pm, Chrissy Hogue and Robert Lynn sat in a grocery store deli and talked about collaborating on a one-woman show. Not surprisingly, they decided that Chrissy would be the one woman and Robert would not. That left writing and directing to Robert. By October 4, rehearsals had begun. March 24, 2012, marked the beginning of a two-week soft opening of the show at the Gorilla Tango Theater in Chicago. The full show’s premiere was at Mindframe Theaters in Dubuque on May 11, 2012. On May 30, the play started a multi-month run at the Galena Trolley Depot Theater in Galena, Illinois with several stops in Dubuque over the following months. [The show was performed at its largest venue to date--the 350-seat Metropolis Performing Arts Center in Arlington Heights, Illinois on January 11, 2013.] After a sell-out performance as part of the United Solo Festival in New York City, the show closed and a new journey began. Today, The Stupider Economy, the second iteration of the show, is now available for live streaming and will be touring in person come June 2021.

Christina (Chrissy Hogue) Bartels is an Adjunct Professor of Theatre at the University of Dubuque. She is completing her M.F.A. in Film and Television with a concentration in Script and Screenwriting at Regent University and received her B.A. in Theatre at Franklin Pierce University. She is an award-winning actress, producer, director, filmmaker, writer, a co-founder of the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival, and Executive Director of Aftershocks Theatre Company. Christina is the author of Make a Living Acting Anywhere: Ultimate Guide.
