Considered to be one of the jewels of Vashon Island, I knew Point Robinson Park would be perfect choice for my first hike of the 2020 season. Even though it was a cold Saturday in early March, it didn't stop me from taking in all the sights and sounds. The main attraction of the park is the Point Robinson Lighthouse. It was built in 1914 by the U.S. Bureau of Lighthouses and is still a working lighthouse today.

You will also see the two historic Keepers' Quarters which are now vacation rentals. The income from these rentals helps to maintain the park.

Even during the off-season, it's still a great place where friends and families can come to relax and play. There are large amounts of drift wood on the beaches perfect for building forts on the beach. It's a perfect place to fly kites and watch ships steam by.

One of my favorite parts of any hike are the critters that you encounter. Bald eagles & geese flew over head, many water fowl swam and played in the water. Today was a special encounter. While walking along the beach, I ran into a baby harbor seal trying to sun bathe along the shore. This is the closest I've ever been to one - it was a special experience.

If you ever find yourself on Vashon Island, check out Point Robinson Park - it's a fun place the whole family can enjoy.
