KSENIA RODRIGUES

Artist Statement

For my art, I try to make things that relate to me on a personal level - art that includes components of my Russian heritage. It is important to me to be able to share this culture with others and let them learn something new. As a young and new artist, I feel that creating art has to be influenced by personal experiences that I grew up with and those that will influence my art in the future. My main goal is to inspire others to try to understand other cultures and be willing to learn from them.

It’s important to understand Russian culture in order to understand the people that live there. By understanding people we can relate to them and be able to communicate freely and express ourselves, our ideas, our opinions. If we are able to communicate with others, we can connect and spread our knowledge and teach others something we know and excel at. Cultural barriers are meant to be broken in order to build something new and wholesome.

In my working progress, I try to go deep inside my thoughts and derive the simplest idea that I can start working with. It has to make sense to me and others around. I think about different components, such as music, visuals, and color scheme that would be combined in the end for the result. I want them to complement each other and tell a story that is easy enough to comprehend. I want it to be something new and bold that grabs attention.
