Wild World is a short experimental film, exploring the notion of freedom. It focuses on shadows, nature and surrealism. These themes are accompanied by heavily manipulated and disorientating editing and an original score. The film begins with a short montage of very natural, light environments before transitioning into a darker, chaotic surrealist montage. Wild World ends with a mix of the two, a natural but slightly dark montage. The voiceover for Wild World is composed of a combination of quotes from classic children’s novel ‘The Wind In The Willows’ by Kenneth Grahame and the poetry of 13th century Persian poet Rumi. Rumi was a visionary and very ahead of his time. His writing explores a love of the natural world and connection with the divine. Grahame’s stories in The Wind In The Willows focus on a child-like quest for freedom, with the loveable characters discovering the beauty of nature. I chose to blend these two opposite texts as I noticed that despite their differences, they explore common themes like nature, identity, friendship and freedom. These two texts were so inspiring to me due to their central messages and themes, which are similar to the ideas I want to convey through Wild World. This led me to use them as the basis for my voiceover.
