"Let Us Believe in the Beginning of the Hot Season" is a story about the relationship between an American man and a Taliban leader. The two men meet in Afghanistan and a romance blooms. In a series of tableaux that blends poetic imagery and symbols, the film is an allegory for the relationship between Afghanistan and the United States. "Let Us Believe in the Beginning of the Hot Season" is a collaboration between Kubra Khademi and Daniel Pettrow. Both artists bring a dynamic range of artistic elements (visual art, theater, writing, cinema, ritual practices, cultural and political practices) and weave them together in a narrative tapestry. This film was made during the Covid pandemic which forced the artists to work in a long distance collaboration. Each artist filmed their own scenes separately using green screens (Kubra Khademi in Paris, and Daniel Pettrow in New York.) The scenes were then edited together to create this film.
