We are excited to join Season One of theVOV, a new virtual arts ecosystem, combining cutting edge XR technology with pioneering micro-philanthropy hosting 15 of the UK’s leading arts organisations to revive some of their most celebrated exhibitions of the recent past. We chose to revive our immersive Collective Intimacy platform to be accessible in a special digital archive format until 12 July 2021 on thevov.art
Collective Intimacy, originally in collaboration with Prada and The Vinyl Factory, was hosted by The Showroom and The Store X in October – November 2019, launched within the Black Image Corporation installation by Theaster Gates. It took us on a journey through multiple narratives of the current Black experience, offering futuristic imaginaries as jumping off points for a collaboration. Through its initial archive on our website, and now its more dynamic and focussed presence on theVOV, Collective Intimacy continues to resonate in a moment where activists and allies across the globe have been acting against unrelenting racial violence.
In this new digital format we’re thrilled to present collateral content from the over 30 events hosted in 2019, as well as a new immersive archive experience in our virtual exhibition including videos by artists Phoebe Boswell with Bumi Thomas, Julianknxx with Thabo & Tawiah, Andrew Pierre Hart, Larry Amponsah, Thick/er Black Lines (including Rianna Jade Parker & Aurella Yussuf) with Ayo Akingbabe, Cecile Emeke & Emily Mulenga, and Nephertiti Oboshie Schandorf with Blaize Henry. We’re also looking forward to hosting a Lunchtime Tour after we launch in May, and special Season One Closing Party with even more collaborators like POSTSCRIPT, Phoebe Collings-James, and more!
