Geng Xue (b.1983, Jilin, China) was trained at Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) and received her MFA in 2014. Her artistic practice is centred around establishing a balance between traditional techniques and contemporary sensibilities. Drawing on the rich tradition of Chinese ceramics, Geng exploits the unique material qualities and meanings associated with the art form, particularly those linked to porcelain. White, translucent and delicate, porcelain possesses a vast symbolic language upon which Geng bases her work, rethinking and revitalising age-old traditions.
Geng was shortlisted for the Young Artist of the Year recognition by China's most prestigious contemporary art prize, the 11th Award of Art China (AAC) in 2017, and participated in Sydney Biennale 2018 and the 58th Venice Biennale 2019. Selected public collections, including M+ Museum, Hong Kong; The National Museum of Wales, UK; The Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics, Netherlands; The White Rabbit Gallery, Australia and Seto City Art Museum, Japan. She is currently teaching at CAFA, Department of Sculpture in Beijing.
