Synopsis:
Tarantella is a registration of the current research of Marijn Celea in which he goes on a
journey to reconnect with his roots by ways of connecting his personal ‘DNA of movement’
to, on the one hand, his analysis of the movement material of the tarantella (and tarantism)
and, on the other hand, the socio-cultural aspects of folklore from the south of Italy.
In the south, preserving tradition is of utmost importance, as is the generational transmission
of knowledge in order to keep the culture alive. Due to the mass emigration that started in the
early 1950s, people now live in fear of losing their traditions.
Villages are deserted. The youth is leaving.
With this work Marijn hopes, in his own way, to keep those rich traditions alive.

Marijn Celea (Brussels, 1989) studied Multimedia Design and Performing Arts at KASK
School Of Arts in Ghent, Belgium. He currently lives in Brussels and teaches dance classes in
5 Belgian dance schools, next to which he performs, creates music, films and digital collages.
