Birgit Beumers is professor emerita in film studies at Aberystwyth University, UK and currently covers for the Chair in Slavic studies at Passau University. She specialises in Russian culture, cinema and theatre, as well as the film industries of former Soviet territories. She has published widely on Russian and Central Asian cinema, including “A History of Russian Cinema” (2009). She is co-editor, with Gulnara Abikeyeva, of “Cinema in Central Asia” (2013), and editor-in-chief of the journals “Studies in Russian and Soviet Cinema” and “KinoKultura”.

Joël Chapron is a specialist in Eastern and Central European cinema, especially in cinemas of the former Soviet territories. He is responsible at UniFrance Films for promoting French cinema in these regions. Among other occasions, he works as a translator and interpreter for Russian-speaking jury members at the Cannes film festival and has created the subtitles for several films. He has been a correspondent for the former Soviet territories at Cannes film festival for almost 30 years. Besides publishing numerous articles in France and abroad, he has delivered lectures and contributed to special DVD editions.
