This is a trailer for Lessons from the Rosenwald Schools (23 minute run time), a documentary film by Claudia Stack, Ed.M. & Richard T. Newkirk, Ed.D. Using clips selected from hundreds of interviews with alumni and former teachers, this film illustrates thematic experiences at historic African American schools. Dr. Newkirk, an educator/alumnus of these historic schools, and Ms. Stack, an educator/ filmmaker who has been documenting African American education heritage since 2003, both comment to help viewers understand how the schools fostered a culture of excellence. The film reveals practices that were common in Rosenwald and other historic African American schools, specific teaching strategies that are validated by current research, and recommends ways that we can move forward together.
The film will be available by VOD and as part of presentations. Contact us claudiaabstack@gmail.com or (910) 264-4469
