Cinema Detroit and Detroit Narrative Agency (DNA) present Ethics & Aesthetics as an intentional space for Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities to view media projects and films relevant to them and to reflect on their form and content.
The theme for this program illuminates the connections between Detroit/Waawiiyaatonong/Anishinaabe, Palestinian, and Haitian points of view on home, land, and memory. They included:
• Razan Alsalah, your father was born 100 years ago and so was the Nakba by Razan AlSalah (@hi_raz)
• Apátrida (Stateless) by Michèle Stephenson (@michele_0608 /
@radastudiosnyc)
This video is documentation of the post screening conversation between the filmmakers listed above, moderated by filmmaker and scholar, Alicia Diaz.
These films were preceded by select videos from DNA’s Radical Remedies: Collective Healing and Power Through Story. They included:
• Each Other / Uno al otro by Adela Nieves Martinez (@adela_noblesnows)
• Corktown by Carmensita J Buentello
• Solidarity: First Your Liberation And Then Mine by Inside Southwest Detroit by Erik Howard (@insidesouthwest)
All films and conversations were closed captioned and included ASL interpretation, with support from DNA technical production apprentice Raven Martin, editor Nadeem Persico-Shammas, and production house Mainstream Media in Chicago.
