Baul are singers, dancers, artists, philosophers from West Bengal. In many villages Baul ashrams are hosted, in which they live studying, singing and begging for alms. Daughter of a middle-class family, Parvathy Baul choose to became a Baul when sixteen, refusing a regular training in school, following her Guru Sanatan Das Baul, who initiated her in the Baul. Parvathy today performs Baul song, dance and paintings all over the world, she is part of Odin Teatret’s International School of Theatre Anthropology. Baul is listed in UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
I share ten days whith Parvathy, I meet her while painting and performing as a guest of Teatro tascabile di Bergamo, in the cloister where the group live and work.

Parvathy Baul viene invitata per un periodo di residenza presso il Monastero del Carmine a Bergamo, da Teatro tascabile di Bergamo, Festival Danza Estate e Associazione Contemporary Locus. Seguo il lavoro di Parvathy e organizzo un breve e intenso incontro/intervista a cui invito Antonietta Fusco di TTB. Antonietta e Francesca Ceccherini di Contemporary Locus hanno fatto da “assistenti” d’eccezione a Parvathy Baul, che durante i dieci giorni a Bergamo ha dipinto un murale, ha presentato due spettacoli di canti e danze Baul all’interno del chiostro, ha tenuto un workshop di tre giorni e ha presentato e spiegato al pubblico la sua opera, proponendo una danza Baul.
