Shared spaces are part of the fabric of the arts community. In Los Angeles, one of those spaces is a huge gallery and performance space called Human Resources Los Angeles. HRLA was founded in 2010, and composer, experimenter, and persimmon aficionado Corey Fogel has been part of the HRLA community from the beginning. During a recent residency at HRLA, Corey created Graphic Score for 2(x) in 6 Parts, a mammoth-sized graphic music score painted on one of the walls of HRLA. In Corey’s words, this score was “composed for this amazing room, a room whose architecture, acoustics, and community have inspired so much of my art and performance.” It is meant to be a portal into an infinite number of possible interpretations that can be realized from this one score.

For this month’s MFYI video and art pairing, we are presenting four possible interpretations of Corey’s Graphic Score for 2(x) in 6 Parts: two interpretations by improvisational duo Odeya Nini (voice) and Archie Carey (bassoon) (who also have strong ties to HRLA), a graphic collage response by Devora Levin for our postcard, and a silent version that you can perform in your own mind.
