The Arctic Fox volunteer monitoring took place in Hornvík (Hornstrandir Nature Reserve), from June 23rd - 30th 2020. A group of 5 people gathering data about the arctic fox response to tourist activity disturbance at breeding dens.
8 Days of pristine wilderness and subarctic conditions, at 66.46°N.

At Hornstrandir, the only means of communication with the external world is a GPS, and a tiny boat that comes approximately twice a week (and that has to use a zodiac in order to reach the shore). A journey only possible to make a few weeks during the summer, and that takes 3 hours to the nearest town -Ísafjörður-, often through very rough seas.

Access to the peninsula is protected by Drangajökull glacier on the south, making the area the most isolated and remote in Iceland.

There is no people living here. There are no roads, no livestock, no power lines / electricity, no phone signal, internet, or shops of any kind. The only transport available between places are boggy paths and hiking boots. But there is wonderful quietness, breathtaking landscapes and raw, unspoiled nature all around. The only habitants of this arctic paradise being the arctic fox, seals, and millions of birds.
