This is my Film Annotation/Film Review talk, used for any of my students using film analysis in their papers, across many classes. This is NOT the Museum show. This is one I did in my studio, in Vermont.

Do remember that the Hero's Journey material is for use as a secondary source, to help build your focus of a particular, select scene, idea, concept, theme, etc.

I talk about Basic film concepts used in analysis. Please be mindful not to use the direct opinions and ideas of others about your particular choice of film, scene, concept, or whatever you choose to focus; make the work personal--make it part of yourself. The only other secondary sources would be, perhaps, an extended script of your film. Most students will work with the same film, as the professor would already be familiar with the chosen piece. It's no different than working off of the same Shakespearean play.

To that end, be mindful not to "introduce" the film or its writer and director in some separate paragraph. That is not necessary. Be mindful that your reader is meant to already understand such information, and that any use of that introductory information would need to be related to a particular theme or idea. Just like with normal analysis and annotation writing, GET RIGHT INTO THE WORK, NO INTRODUCTION.

Remember to use appropriate MLA formatting for your in-text and final citations. An entire grade (or more) will be lost on inaccurately-used or miss-used MLA citation (or using the wrong style, as some tend to continue doing).
