Cinema Detroit and Detroit Narrative Agency (DNA) present Ethics & Aesthetics as an intentional space for Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities to view media projects and films relevant to them and to reflect on their form and content.

⁣The theme for this program, Footnotes on the Black Experience, shows organized resistance, uprisings, intimate reflections, and slow-motion meditations, these films breathe life into multidimensional Black experiences in America/Turtle Island. The films included were:⁣

• Silence Sam (@silencesamfilm) by Courtney Symone Staton (@symonesees), ⁣
• Right On by Zachary Cunningham (@z.c.cunningham)⁣
• Witness by Marie Alarcon⁣
• All Skinfolk Ain’t Kinfolk by Angela Tucker (@tuckergurl)⁣

This video is documentation of the post screening conversation between the filmmakers listed above, moderated by DNA Co-Director Cornetta Lane-Smith.

These films were preceded by select videos from DNA’s Radical Remedies: Collective Healing and Power Through Story. They included:⁣

All films and conversations were closed captioned and included ASL interpretation, with support from DNA technical production apprentice Raven Martin, editor Nadeem Persico-Shammas, and production house Mainstream Media in Chicago.
