The idea for this video came from the infinite world theory or any other parallel dimension theory. Basically the idea is that there can be an infinite amount of the same "world" but with minor differences. So maybe one world is completely identical to the next but there could be one tiny difference, like a person's index finger is a cm longer for example. When you think about all the different combinations and slight differences there could be down to the atomic level it becomes difficult to wrap your head around. I read about a similar theory stating there could be two realities happening in the same location simultaneously. This is more based on that idea.

This wasn't the original idea however. It very much came out of the edit. Originally this was going to be shot in a completely different location and be a completely different thing. We had planned to shoot on a beach, but when we got there it was crowded. Which should have been obvious since it was a weekend in August. We drove to a couple other beaches nearby with no success. Eventually we found a nearby trail with a little stream running through that you see in the video.

This shoot was really just something I wanted to do for fun. I was coming from a work shoot earlier in the day though, and was a bit all over the place. I got there and started to build out the camera only to realize I had forgotten my spare battery. The batteries I had with me were all dead from being used all day. I had one small bp-a30 with about 10 minutes left on it. The sun was also fading quickly, and sinking behind a small ridge to camera left. So there was very little wiggle room in terms of exposure and time. I had to bump iso to 1600 and opened all the way to T1.5 (which looks beautiful on the Tokinas). We had barely anytime, I had to rush to get any shots at all. I definitely wish I could have gotten a few more takes of a few shots and just more coverage in general, but what can ya do. With so little footage to work with I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get a video out of it at all. Which is why I decided to do two distinct color palettes in the grade, which essentially doubled my footage, and also gave me a theme to work with for the video.

If you're a subscriber to my channel you've probably seen Cat model in my videos in the past. She's always great to work with. She's a very talented model and has a great sense of how to pose for the camera. We often will come up with what we're going to do on the spot and it's always very easy and looks great. For the rig I went handheld, and with a 25mm prime. I didn't do a fully built out handheld rig just for the sake of time. I wanted a soft glow but there wasn't enough light for the 1/4 pro mist to really be noticeable so I went with 1/2. I really love going handheld with wide and medium focal lengths. I think a lot of DP's do. There's a certain organic feel to it, and a nice intimacy. Staying wider also allows you to see a bit more of the world the character is inhabiting. It's actually a bit of a trend now, more and more things are being shot with very wide focal lengths. And especially with larger sensors becoming popular it creates a very interesting look.
