Shot with a Kino-Lomo ¬– a low-tech, hand-cranked, 35mm film camera – three film frames are able to be seen at the same time. The recent past, present, and near future are continuously visible.

143 color laser prints of Super8 film stills
Each photo is a still frame from a super Super8 film of light on the water. The original film frames had a specific order on the strip of film, based on linear time. That linear time element has been now been removed, and the images are recombined to form a new overall pattern. Just as every shaft of light contains quantum memories, every place and every being has multiple histories.

23,4 kg natriumcloride (NaCl),
10,3 g magnesium sulfate (MgSO4),
100 g sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3),
2,9 g silicates (Si),
1,4 g nitrogen (Ntotal),
0,2 g phosphorus (Ptotal)

(Missing: 25 trillion bacteria, 50-100 billion microalgal cells, 0,25 - 25 million zooplankton organisms (crustaceans etc.), 100 g of fish, 10 microparticles of plastic)

You look at the sea, and your substance begins to change. You look at it to look at something that’s not you. To dissolve and collapse. To be boundless, diverse and present. This you could even mount it on a wall. To go back, to return in microscopic particles. Different human looking at view from a different material.

The exhibition is carried by human imagination of an ancient, lasting, uninterrupted existence. The element that is captivating in its freedom from constraint. The title is line from Eugene Montale’s poem that presents a nostalgic view of an uncontrolled and curing nature. It’s an idea of a powerful agency that surrounds us, yet stays untouched by us; it is even able to cleanse itself. In the poem, the sea casts out all the “useless rubble”, inutili macerie. But our traces are everywhere. You need to measure the heartbeats of a mussel to recognize the unexpected impact of your rubble.

The installations deal with the pleasures of looking and the way they may evolve.
The gallery environment presents a view that the artists are trying to control.
Or are they trying to show something uncontrollable?
