The ability to visually perceive our environment is wonderful and limited in many ways. Our brain is skilled in interpreting visual content in ways that smooth out what we may actually perceive, while our retina is not able to process all wavelengths of light, even compressing the signals which can be processed. The overwhelming abundance of light information that is present in the world but unknown to the human eye inspired this video, which experiments with camera shutter speed (exposing the frame from several seconds to 1/8000 shutter speed) and a flashing light. The overlay of different compositions, colored lights, shutter speeds and shadow figures contribute to an exaggerated picture of the possible insanity it could be to perceive all light information in the universe with our human eyes. Despite our limited physical perception abilities, the film pays tribute to our cognitive, emotional sense-making abilities, as although the visuals are harsh and jittery, a sort of emotional narrative between two distorted shadow figures may still be perceptible, perhaps due to the color choice and shot juxtaposition.
