Artist Barron Sherer’s studio project, Moving Image Alliance presents the screening in collaboration with Miami Beach Film Society…

This screening is an intermedial presentation of two Miami-centric mid-1950s film noirs made by low to mid-budget film director Fred F. Sears (EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS). Here, Sears’ THE MIAMI STORY (1954) and MIAMI EXPOSE (1956), both well-paced and full of recognizable genre conventions, are experienced together side simultaneously in a digital composite from recently scanned 16mm motion picture film prints. Emboldened by digital technology and a (very, very oose) videographic style of two films screened simultaneously: an aesthetic twin image effect of MIAMI STORY / MIAMI EXPOSE emphasizes narrative structure, plotting, pace, notions of doubling and repetition as visual tropes, compositions, and even costumes re-appear.

The experiencer engaging the films in this manner may notice a transformative work.

“Videographics” is a relatively new term for creative practice evolving out of the work of film scholars, contemporary artists, and cinephiliacs as their relationships with cinema access and critical culture become more dynamic.

Thanks to Bruce Posner, David Thomson, and Dana Keith for inspiration.
