1979 - I boarded a plane in the UK after borrowing $500 from my mother and departing from our family trip with my sights set on Paris. A beautiful blonde boy took the empty seat next to me and two days later I joined the team of race car mechanics from San Luis Obispo in a mini bus headed south. I created a job for myself as part of the group working for the Dick Barbour Racing Group at the 24 Hr. Le Mans Road race. This would be the great heartbreak race for Paul Newman when his car came so close to winning only to come in second because of a frozen front tire bolt.

After years of Kodak Instamatics 104, 113 X-15 and Pocket Instamatics. My dad bought me my first SLR camera, a Minolta SRT101 in the Panama Canal. I was twelve and he taught me how to develop my own film and print my photos. I had scored my second 35 mm camera, an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic in a pawn shop. It went everywhere with me and even survived being dropped into an empty swimming pool. One day I loaned it to a friend and never saw it again.
