This film is about Joe Szalanski, a western Pennsylvania steel worker who tried to escape working in the steel mills. He searched for jobs in Chicago, and lost his job during the Great depression. He then joined up with his friend Kelly and became hobos visiting all 48 states. Returning home, he married and found a job working in the steel mills, only to be crushed to death by a steel slab.
