Hundreds of Transgender people are murdered each year for simply existing. Constantly under scrutiny and threatened in every society around the world, there have been reactionary protests and marches to resist and condemn this oppression. I highlight intersectionality as a primary focus and theme throughout the video due to the statistics largely representing Black, Transgender (MTF) female prostitutes who are forced to “sell themselves” due to extreme work discrimination in Brazil in particular. I have incorporated sound clips from the “Say Her Name” movement- a reactionary movement about police brutality towards Black women in America. I have also used clips celebrating Queerness and Transgender identities from previous decades, such as “Paris is Burning” which was filmed in 1980. There have been hundreds of movements drawing attention to Transgender rights. Little is done by the authorities however, thus, injustice continues (often reinforced by the establishment itself). We must continue to support Trans lives and use our Cisgender privilege to support and continue the movement until Transgender individuals are legitimized and respected as citizens and human beings.
