My video begins with the expanded time portion of the project. I start off by showing a speaker being turned on and beginning to play a song. I chose to have a song playing in the background to act as the anchor for the viewer to know that they are watching something that is taking place at the present time. If the music stops, the viewer knows the time of day being shown has changed. To further isolate the time of day, I also added a light blue tint over all of the clips that are showing actions during the daytime. After the speaker has been turned on, I use a POV shot of walking to the window and panning over the parked cars outside, the POV shot along with the music playing in the background helps me anchor the viewer to being inside the apartment. I then use a graphic match to show the cars during the daytime and place focus on a single car by starting and ending at that point. The next few clips are taken in the daytime and no longer have the music playing.
These daytime clips are the beginning of my compressed time section. Beginning at the car that I placed emphasis on earlier, the viewer follows the subject, in third person, getting in the car and going to the gym for a workout. I cut away from actions abruptly and do not spend too much time looking at one action to show quick time progression. I also use graphic match to show the subject going through different activities at a fast pace since it feels like everything around the subject is moving quickly. Throughout this entire sequence, the camera stays in a fixed position to further push the idea that everything around the subject is moving quickly.
Towards the end of the gym sequence, I kept the jump rope sound continuous to make it feel like everything was moving at an even faster pace. The pace while running on the treadmill and jumping rope gets faster until I cut back to the car to end the workout as well as the daytime clips.
Once the subject is back in the car, I cut back to the POV shot of being back in the apartment at nighttime. The camera movement pace is much slower to show expanded time and the music is once again playing where it left off to give the viewer the sense of being back in present time. I then show various scenes of things as they are now with a glimpse as to how they were earlier. For example, I show a cake that has already had a slice taken out of it compared to when it was recently purchased and placed on the table. I also show a dog playing and running compared to that same dog in a more relaxed state earlier in the day. This gives the idea that a lot has happened during the time between the flashbacks and present time but the viewer is experiencing all the changes at the present time to show expanded time.
