~ sounds with s ~

The swaying ghost sounds unite with the unfulfilled knots‡ formed by the entangling traces of their own movement and together they weave the web of time. Like ship crews, they pull the nets and lock the trap behind memories that swim into fish traps set over stream mouths to breed. ~ good luck In a moment where I am drawn to, caught up with, tangled around ghost sounds, I see myself slowly drifting through the lightless current of the Undertime. My eyes turn toward the edge of the surface where water meets air, my body calm, numb; I notice that it is getting dark. From undertime, I see outside as clearly as I could see below the water when I gaze out from the cliffs into the sea. The present dim light is not susceptive at all, it doesn’t refract. My body drifts toward dozens of fishing lines thrown out from a single point into time, waiting aligned, side by side, like a mesh. While suspecting whether these vertical lines in the undertime are traces of ghost sounds that belong to others, I think that it is a rather futile effort to increase the probability of catching prey. Instead of tying all the lines together in knots to weave the web of time, so as to trap herds, lines are tended side by side, each one waiting for its own prey. This short-sightedness reminds me of the mollusk’s ridicule of those who fail to know whether there is something to be seen outside or not until one drops a nerve like a fishing line cast into the darkness; until eyes crop up.
As I drift and draw closer to fishing lines, I see that they are not as disconnected from each other as I thought. I hear very thin sounds meandering between the fish lines holding them together; like two mollusks flirting. ~ sfliff sfliff sfliff I came too close. The hooks at the ends of the fish lines rub on my face, the tension of the ropes affects me, I feel tense. Thin sounds have more s’s in the undertime than they do above. The unison of sounds resembles the cacophony of thousands of rocks hitting each other underwater. But when I try to hear singular sounds, it is as if each one clings on to the fish lines with the two open ends of its S; licks the rope with the loop of its S and pulls on the acceleration allowed by its inner curve to sway across to another fishing net; winds itself around it, and passes on the next. And on to the next, and then the next. The very thin sounds create a current behind them as they keep weaving time continuously. As certain as I am that the sound does not belong here, I wonder where it was before this weave. Which hole did it come out of; which friction, what vibration caused it? Whose ghosts are these thin sounds? ~ sfluff sfluff sfluff While I, defeated by my semantic ambition, question the origin of ghost sounds, its S with reverse hooks on both ends finally grabs my ear, I get hooked. I drift into a new space and time along with another memory triggered in my mind.

‡ — Ukde in Turkish refers to knots (physical, entanglements) as well as things that one worries about later, unfulfilled desires. (t.n.)
