"Sally" consists of a gently curved metal post fixed to the floor. Attached to it is a slowly moving mechanical arm that grabs a red yarn hanging from the ceiling, powered by a gearbox and a motor. With each turnaround, the red yarn goes with the movement of the mechanical arm, slips from the arm after half a turn, settles back in its vertical position, and is picked up again the next round.
This object is a radical contrast to the seemingly unmanageable complexity of reality. Steady repetition, a simple mechanism, no special effects.Deviations only appear at a micro level and require scrutiny. While unspectacular in nature, this object leaves the observer intrigued whether the next turnaround will pick up the yarn or miss it. This opens a wide field of associations where eternity and the current moment melt together and it invites the observer to think about the grand questions of our existence. This work doesn't fit into the NOW and is effective because of that.
