For billions of people in rural areas around the world, land is life. It means food, shelter, a source of income and more. But without legal control over their land, people lose vital resources and become trapped in poverty.
We helped bring to life the mission of Landesa, a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the land rights of people in poor, rural areas. To show the security that land rights afford our characters, we used the ground they walk on as a metaphor. We literally see the ground crumble without land rights, and then remain firm and strong under the feet of men, women and children with help from Landesa.
